Draft — for review

This policy explains what Sipelle collects and why; bracketed notes mark facts we still need to fill in before launch.

Who we are

Sipelle is made by [Legal entity name — TBD]. This policy covers the Sipelle app and this website. If you have any questions about it, email us at support@sipelle.app.

The short version

No accounts, no ads, and we don't sell your data or track you across other apps. When you scan a menu, we process the photo to show you drinks, and then we don't keep it.

What we collect and why

  • Your first name — so the app can greet you. It's also part of the usage profile we send to our analytics provider.
  • An anonymous device ID — a random ID created on your device, used for rate limiting and analytics. It isn't tied to your real identity.
  • Menu photos — processed by AI to read the menu and create drink images. They aren't stored after processing.
  • Usage and crash data — screens you view, product events like scans and purchases, and error reports, used to understand and improve the app.
  • Your IP address — used for daily rate-limit counters.
  • Purchase status — a simple premium flag stored on your device.

Camera and photos

Sipelle uses your camera only while you are scanning a menu — never in the background. The photo is sent to our servers and to third-party AI providers to be read and turned into drink images, and it isn't stored after that processing. Menu photos are never published or shown to other users.

Who we share data with

We use a few service providers to run Sipelle:

  • Supabase — backend hosting.
  • OpenRouter and OpenAI — AI processing of menu photos and drink descriptions.
  • PostHog — analytics and crash reporting, hosted in the United States.
  • Apple App Store and Google Play — subscription billing. We never see your payment details.

These providers process data only to run Sipelle and are required to protect it. We don't sell personal data or share it for advertising.

Data retention and deletion

  • Menu photos — not retained after processing.
  • Rate-limit counters — daily, keyed by device ID and IP address.
  • Analytics — kept only as long as we need it to understand how the app is used.
  • On-device data — your first name, device ID, premium flag, and display preferences are deleted when you delete the app.

To ask us to delete analytics data tied to your device, email us at support@sipelle.app and we'll delete what we can locate. Deleting the app stops any further collection, since the app is what generates this data in the first place.

Your rights

Depending on where you live — for example, under the GDPR in Europe or the CCPA and CPRA in California — you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict how we process it. Email us at support@sipelle.app to exercise them. You can also complain to your local data-protection authority, and we won't treat you differently for exercising your rights.

Security

We send data over encrypted connections (HTTPS), no payment details ever touch our servers, and we minimize what we collect in the first place.

A note on age

Sipelle is about alcoholic drinks and is meant only for people of legal drinking age where they live. It isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has used Sipelle, contact us and we'll delete the data.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the effective date. We'll note any material changes in the app or on the site.
